The liveliest of the Roman writers was Ovid, who came up with poems that showed both revisionist mentality and satiric bent. In general, the three poets produced the most widely read, powerful, and lasting of Romeââ¬â¢s poets. Of these poets, Horace wrote more on the values of Roman civilization as he was keen on social and ethical values of the Romans. The orthodox religion had a big role to play in the Byzantine culture and religion. This religion operated closely with the worldly government to direct all aspects of life of Byzantines. It also meant independence of the Byzantines from the Rome and Roman Catholic Church, which was required as the Roman Empire, was divided leaving Byzantine Empire with new rulers (Badone, 1990).
